excellence in masonry awards

The Excellence in Masonry competition is a showcase for architectural design in masonry. A panel of judges critique the entries based on skill, uniqueness, and mastery. A sculpture, created by artist Sue Landerman, is given to the Excellence award winner each year, as well as a framed copy of the artwork designed in the Young Architects Forum competition.

Excellence
To be held by the winning architect until the next Excellence in Masonry Competition. The Excellence Award is a specially-commissioned, original sculpture by Sue Landerman, a freelance designer and sculptor. Plus the winner will receive a limited edition print award.

Honor
To the architect, owner, and masonry contractor. The Honor Award will be a limited edition print of the winning design from the yearly Young Architects Forum Graphic Design Competition.

Merit
To the architect, owner, and masonry contractor. The Merit Award will be a limited edition print of the winning design from the yearly Young Architects Forum Graphic Design Competition.

  • Eligibility
    1. All projects must be located, constructed, and completed, between January 2008 and September 2009, in the state of Tennessee.
    2. More than one entry may be submitted by an architect or architectural firm.
    3. Masonry (brick, block, stone, tile, glass block) must be the predominant material used in the project.
    4. Entries must meet all rules of this competition in order to be considered for an award.

    Entry Fees
    All submissions must be accompanied by an entry fee. MIT Members Non-members

    Each additional project $25/ $40

    Entry Rules and Regulations
    1. Download or request template. Visit www.masonryinsttn.com and download the PowerPoint template (the template will be located on the right side of the main page titled “Excellence in Masonry 2008 Template”). If there is any trouble downloading the template, e-mail mit@masonryinsttn.com with “Excellence in Masonry Template Request” as the subject. The PowerPoint template will be
    e-mailed to you in return.
    2. Complete and return the PowerPoint template including pictures of the following:
    A. Site plan (a scanned rendering is acceptable)
    B. Floor plan(s)
    C. Exterior elevations
    D. Interior masonry (if pertinent)
    E. Featured masonry details
    F. 2-5 pictures of the project (one of which must be a black and white digital photo).
    3. The completed PowerPoint template should contain pictures from above (A through F). The total number of slides submitted should not exceed 12.
    All images placed in the template should also be saved in a separate folder.
    4. Completed template and folder of images may be saved and returned by mail or
    in person on a CD/DVD or 100MB Zip disk. Please label the CD/DVD or disk with your
    company name and name of the structure. Include your entry form with the CD or disk.
    5. Entry deadline is 12 noon CST, Friday, June
